Key Lime Keto Mousse Recipe is a creamy refreshing keto dessert with just the right amount of tartness. You’ll love how easy and quick the recipe is to make. The experienced and non-experienced cook alike will have no problems whipping up this low carb mousse. This sugar-free dessert recipe is perfect for warm summer nights, family get-togethers, or when you want something sweet and fresh fast.
Key Lime Keto Mousse Dessert Recipe
I love fruity desserts, especially in the spring and summer. As the weather here in Tennessee starts to change, I am looking forward to grilling, warm summer nights, and cold refreshing treats every now and then. One of my favorite desserts is Key Lime Pie so I thought I’d create a keto/low carb a mousse version. Without a crust, it is nut free for those with tree nut allergies and it keeps the carb count lower.
It took several tries to get the tartness of the Key Lime Mousse just right. Also, the measurements I have included for both the key lime zest and key lime juice may vary as some limes aren’t nearly as tart as others. So, when you make this dessert make sure to taste the recipe as you go to get the perfect tartness. I would recommend refrigerating overnight for maximum flavor.
I also have a Keto Key Lime Pie Recipe that will incorporate a pecan crust for extra texture and crunch to keto key lime mousse.
Make sure to beat the heavy cream until it forms stiff peaks, when finished it should resemble whipped cream.
Tip: Always make sure your bowl, beaters, and any measuring tools you use are completely dry. Otherwise, the added moisture could interfere with the heavy cream beating to stif peanks.
Can you overbeat heavy whipping cream?
Yes, if you over whip your ingredients, it will be grainy and gross. All you have to do to fix this is add a little more heavy whipping cream and with a couple turns of a whisk you’ll have creamy peaks once again.
Pro Tip:
Allow the cream cheese to come to room temperature so that it will be nice and creamy. This will make a lighter mousse with an airy texture.
The key lime zest and juice pack such a powerful punch of zesty fresh flavor to this key lime keto mousse recipe. You’ll be amazed how much flavor you can get from such a simple recipe.
Along with being low in net carbs, this recipe is also gluten-free. However, if you have a gluten allergy, make sure to check the ingredients before making. My daughter has a nut allergy, so I know you can not leave anything up to chance.
Can you freeze keto mousse?
Yes, you can freeze this Key Lime Keto Mousse recipe for up to two months. To thaw stick it in the fridge overnight, or until it can either be sliced or scooped out with a spoon.
How do you store key lime keto mousse?
Mousse can either be stored in the fridge for five days or the freezer for two months. It will take several hours once placed in the fridge for the mousse to firm up completely. I often pop it in the freezer for 45 minutes to an hour so that it can firm up quickly before serving. Then, I set it out on the counter for a few minutes to make serving easier.
Why are limes and key limes different?
Key limes are smaller than limes and are known to pack a more acidic punch than regular limes. However, you can substitute limes for key limes if you do not have any available. Taste your keto mousse as you go because you may need to add more lime juice than you would key lime juice.

Planning to make this for Easter weekend. Could you tell me about how long it keeps in the fridge? Thank you!
Kasey says
I would say it would be the same as any other type of dessert 3-5 days.
Kristi says
Hi. Does it need to have the cream cheese?
Kasey says
Hi Kristi, I’ve only tried making it as is. I haven’t tried without cream cheese so I’m not sure how it would taste.
Kathleen says
with or without a lock on the fridge?
Brenda says
I’m wondering if I did the lime zest correctly. The finished mousse had strands of the lime peel in it and I hated that texture! Is there a way to get it smooth? What did I do wrong?
Kasey says
Hmmmm….when you zest the limes it should be very delicate little bits of zest not strands. What did you use to zest the limes?
Wendy says
No key limes in Canada right now. Can I use regular limes?
Kasey says
Sure
Ruthanne says
Wendy look for Nellie’s and Joe’s bottled key lime juice I use that because key limes are too expensive here
Wendy says
I’m wondering how many carbs it is without the whip cream and 2 table spoons of swerve at the top
Kasey says
Try to use the MFP app.
